Basalt Quarry Case Study | LOX Liquid Oxygen Rock Splitting Solution
Overview This case study introduces how we solved low efficiency and high operating costs for a basalt quarry. Basalt features...
Learn More The DL-III LOX (Liquid-oxygen) Rock Splitting Technology is a non-explosive, low-vibration and high-power rock splitting system. It leverages the physical property that low-temperature liquid oxygen vaporizes within a confined space to generate tremendous physical expansion force for rock fragmentation. This technology completely transforms the high-risk operation mode of traditional explosive blasting. As the system does not involve any hazardous chemicals, and liquid oxygen can be easily purchased from local industrial gas filling stations, it is not classified as a civil explosive materials,which brings great convenience and flexibility in transportation, storage and operation.
The equipment is applicable to hard rock excavation sites including open-pit mines, quarries, earthwork projects and road foundation excavation.
The LOX rock splitting system is widely used in various mine infrastructure and geotechnical excavation projects. Details are as follows:
1 Mining Operations:
Hard rock mining in open-pit mines;
Stone extraction in quarries;
Rock strata stripping;
2 Infrastructure & Geotechnical Engineering:
Large-scale earthwork projects;
Foundation pit excavation;
Trench construction;
Slope trimming;
Secondary breaking of boulders.

Learn MoreThe DL-III LOX Rock Splitting System utilizes the featurer of liquid oxygen (-183°C) , which achieves a volume expansion ratio of over 800 times during instantaneous phase transition from liquid to gas, triggering brittle fracture of rock mass.

Safety
On‑site filling design. Fracturing tubes carry no explosion risk before LOX filling, greatly reducing transport and storage hazards.
Environmental Protection
Reaction outputs are water vapor, CO₂ and minor oxygen. No toxic nitrogen oxides, sulfide gases or heavy dust from conventional explosives.
Low Vibration & Low Noise
Extremely low peak particle velocity (~3.04 cm/s at 3 m). Minimal disturbance to nearby buildings and foundations, ideal for sites close to residential areas, protected zones and sensitive pipelines.
High Energy Output
Adjustable fracturing power. High rock fragmentation rate with very few oversized boulders.
Cost‑Effective
Low overall fracturing cost. Superior large‑scale economic performance versus traditional mechanical excavation and static cracking.
Global Supply Chain
Mature worldwide industrial liquid‑oxygen supply network. Easy on‑site refilling and raw‑material sourcing.
Zero Residual Hazards
Once liquid oxygen is fully vaporized, only non‑explosive waste stays in boreholes. No physically or chemically explosive residues left behind.
